Simple Migration
Scoped after the diagnostic
For: Single-entity Desktop-to-Online, under 3 years of history, few integrations, no inventory, no payroll history.
Scope a Simple migration →New York · QuickBooks Migration
Intuit stopped selling new Desktop subscriptions in September 2024 and discontinued Desktop 2023 after May 31, 2026; Desktop 2024 keeps continuous support, with no end date set. When remote access, integrations, or your accountant point to QuickBooks Online, professional Desktop-to-Online migration by TechBrot — data conversion, integration replacement, historical reconciliation, NYC/NY sales-tax setup, and a CPA-coordinated handoff, every migrated file validated against the old one. Done cleanly, in 3–8 weeks.
Certifications
Current certifications held by TechBrot’s founder, who reviews every engagement: QuickBooks Online Level 2 and QuickBooks Payroll — verification on request. Intuit’s ProAdvisor program becomes ProPartner Accountants in early 2027; the certifications continue.

Professional QuickBooks migration moves your accounting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online — or from Wave, Xero, FreshBooks, Sage, or Bench into QuickBooks — cleanly and completely. It is data conversion, chart-of-accounts restructuring for Online’s different structure, historical reconciliation, integration replacement (Desktop integrations rarely transfer directly), payroll-history migration, opening-balance verification tied to a conversion date, NYC/NY sales-tax reconfiguration, a documented handoff, training, and CPA coordination.
The work begins with a pre-migration audit, not a file dump. We map what carries forward cleanly — lists, balances, open transactions — and what has to be rebuilt: Desktop-only integrations, custom reports, advanced inventory, class and location structures Online models differently. Every migrated file is then validated against the old one: trial balance to trial balance, A/R and A/P aging, bank and credit-card balances as of the cutover, and sales-tax liability tied to a date — so the new file proves out before anyone relies on it.
Intuit stopped selling new Desktop subscriptions in September 2024 and discontinued QuickBooks Desktop 2023 after May 31, 2026; Desktop 2024 has continuous support — Intuit says there is “no sunset deadline for this release” (updated September 18, 2026). So migrating is a business call, not a deadline: New York businesses move when they are on 2023 or older, need remote or multi-user access, rely on integrations that need QuickBooks Online, or work with an accountant in QuickBooks Online. Fixed-fee engagements run $2,500–$10,000+ by history depth and complexity, completed in 3–8 weeks. Many continue directly into monthly bookkeeping in the new file.
TechBrot delivers the migration and coordinates with your CPA, who files; it does not file New York State or NYC tax returns.
Migration is a business decision, not a deadline. If any of these signals show up, it is worth scoping.
Intuit discontinued Desktop 2023 after May 31, 2026, and older versions are no longer supported — payroll tax tables, bank feeds, and security updates stop on a discontinued version. On Pro Plus or Premier Plus 2024 you have continuous support; move when remote access, integrations, or your accountant make QuickBooks Online the better fit.
Cross-platform migration to QuickBooks Online improves CPA compatibility, lender-readiness, and integrations. Former Bench clients — after its Dec 2024 shutdown and relaunch — are a frequent case.
Moving from QBO Simple Start to Plus, or Plus to Advanced, isn’t plug-and-play. New features need configuration; old data structures often need restructuring.
Most U.S. CPAs work primarily in QuickBooks Online. If your accountant is asking you to migrate, the business case is already made.
Buyers, investors, and auditors read your books on a modern, cloud-accessible platform. A Desktop file is friction; a poorly migrated QBO file is worse.
Bank feeds breaking, payment-processor issues, payroll warnings. Intuit’s third-party ecosystem is moving to QBO; the Desktop ecosystem is shrinking.
Not because of a Desktop deadline. Intuit stopped selling new U.S. subscriptions to Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus and Mac Plus after September 30, 2024 (Enterprise is still sold) and Desktop 2023 was discontinued after May 31, 2026, but Desktop 2024 has continuous support with no end date (Intuit, updated September 18, 2026). New York businesses migrate for business reasons: they are on 2023 or older, need remote or multi-user access, rely on integrations that need QuickBooks Online, or work with an accountant in QuickBooks Online. Staying on 2024 is a legitimate choice.
Fixed one-time, typically $2,500–$10,000+. Simple, standard, and complex/Enterprise migrations all land within that range, set by scope. Fixed-fee against a written scope, quoted within 3 business days of a free diagnostic.
It handles the data transfer but doesn’t review accuracy, redesign the chart of accounts, replace Desktop integrations, or reconcile history. Most migrations we do exist because the free tool ran but the result wasn’t usable.
3–8 weeks. Simple ~3 weeks; standard 4–6; complex 6–8. The timeline is fixed in the written scope before work begins.
Yes. Bench shut down Dec 27, 2024 and relaunched under new ownership after a Jan 2025 Canadian bankruptcy — off-Bench migration to QuickBooks Online is a regular engagement. Cross-platform rebuilds the chart of accounts from scratch, so it runs higher.
Two things shape every migration and neither of them is New York-specific: where Intuit’s support for QuickBooks Desktop actually stands — Desktop 2023 was discontinued after May 31, 2026, and for Desktop 2024 Intuit says there is “no sunset deadline” — and what its free conversion tool does and does not do. Both are covered in full on the national migration page — the version-by-version support status, what the tool moves, and the checks it does not run.
What is New York-specific is below: the state tax configuration that has to survive the move, and the New York filings the new file has to keep feeding correctly.
Migration is where Intuit’s free tool stops and professional work starts. Every TechBrot migration follows the same four-phase sequence — audit first, convert and restructure second, replace and reconfigure third, then verify and hand off.
30-minute call. Review your current platform, years of history, transaction volume, integrations, and structural issues. A pre-migration audit identifies what transfers cleanly and what needs rework. Written fixed-fee scope within 3 business days.

Migration engagements are priced as fixed one-time fees against a written scope. Most fall into one of three tiers.
Scoped after the diagnostic
For: Single-entity Desktop-to-Online, under 3 years of history, few integrations, no inventory, no payroll history.
Scope a Simple migration →Most common
Scoped after the diagnostic
For: Multi-year history (3–7 years), 3–6 integrations, payroll-history migration, inventory, multi-state sales tax, or cross-platform (Wave/Xero/Bench).
Scope a Standard migration →Scoped after the diagnostic
For: Multi-entity, multi-location, industry-specific operations (construction, manufacturing, restaurants), Enterprise migrations, 6+ integrations, custom report rebuild.
Scope a Complex migration →QuickBooks Online and Enterprise subscriptions pass through at Intuit list pricing. Final pricing is set by the diagnostic. Optional continuation into monthly bookkeeping runs $400–$2,500+/month depending on complexity. Typical project range: $2,500–$10,000+; each tier is a fixed fee scoped after the diagnostic.
Migration as a forced reaction to a Desktop deadline is the wrong frame — Desktop 2024 has continuous support, and staying on it is a legitimate choice. Migration as deliberate modernization — positioning the business for the next decade of accounting work — is the right one.
A well-migrated QuickBooks Online file enables what Desktop couldn’t: cloud access for distributed teams, real-time CPA collaboration instead of file-handoff cycles, modern integrations with payment processors and e-commerce, AI-assisted bookkeeping that compounds efficiency, better lender and investor positioning, and the foundation for advisory — cash-flow forecasting, scenario planning, margin analysis — that requires data your CPA can actually access.
Most TechBrot migrations transition into monthly bookkeeping with the same ProAdvisor, and many continue into payroll, sales-tax compliance, and eventually advisory. As automation handles routine entry, that judgment layer is where the value lives. The migration is the modernization moment — done right, it unlocks the next decade.
This page reflects how TechBrot handles New York QuickBooks migrations. It is maintained by TechBrot Inc., a Delaware-incorporated bookkeeping and advisory firm, and kept current on Desktop-to-Online conversion, chart-of-accounts restructuring, historical reconciliation, integration replacement, and NYC/NY sales-tax reconfiguration. QuickBooks Desktop support status on this page follows Intuit’s own help articles on the Desktop 2023 discontinuation and Desktop 2024 support; other platform facts were verified against current Intuit and industry sources as of the review date. TechBrot delivers the migration and coordinates with your CPA, who files.
